Visualize Your Future With A Custom Push Pin Map

We have lived in our house for 12 years and in those 12 years many of our walls are still very bare. I do not have an eye for interior design so I opted for the minimalist look to alleviate the stress of matching colors and texture and style.

Last year we started to replace old and worn furniture that we both had pre-marriage. Once everything was in place, I started looking at the walls again.
I was working on a project to showcase our travels and encourage our friends and family to discover new places. We also want them to consider renting villas to save money when traveling. Dennis would display pictures of our activities and vacation villas on his digital frame in his office. I wanted to display pictures in our home to fill our bare walls.

Eventually we want to decorate the walls and empty spaces in our home with decor that is based on family, love, and travel. The travel map is a nice addition to our living room. We have an open concept living/dining area and the push pin travel map should be seen when guests enter the main area of our home.

A legend can be added to the map to designate what each pin on the map represents. The push pins come in several colors to indicate past and future travels or to be used however you wish. Our map is green and brown. Our brown pins are for where we have been. The green is for where we want to go.

When the map arrived, we could not wait to start pinning where we have been and where we planned to go in the future.

There are pin maps for all types of enthusiasts that may have a bucket list of items to check off. Bucket lists give you something to look forward to.  What I love about having a bucket list is that it keeps up focused on goals to achieve. It forces us to properly plan and research our travels. For example, if we want to visit Miami, but our bucket list is to visit each NFL stadium, we will want to visit Miami during a time where there is a NFL game we can see.

Your bucket list can be completed quicker if you visit multiple locations on one vacation Aspire to visit every Major League Baseball stadium or like us every National Football League stadium. For example if you choose to visit each NFL stadium you could have the goal of visiting 30 different cities or 27 different cities for Major League Baseball. Your bucket list could have each of the 7 continents.  Your bucket list doesn’t have to have more than one item. You may only have the goal of one unique experience such as spending the night under the northern lights in an igloo.

There are many resources that can be used to help identify new experiences to enjoy. Get some ideas and recommendations from Facebook groups related to travel. For additional ideas get the book 1000 Places To See Before You Die or the National Parks Passport.

Now that we have our global push pin map we really noticed how large this world is. It’s like taking geography all over again. We enjoy watching travel shows on television and then finding these future spots and pinning them on our map.

Every so often we will look at the map and talk about what we enjoyed about where we have been. When we return from a trip we pin the place on the map.

I have traveled internationally since I was about 15. A lot of the places I experienced when I was single I would like visit again and take my husband. I like to talk about places we traveled in order to inspire others to go on adventures. Many people think traveling around the world is an audacious feat, but it isn’t when you research and plan.

As I mentioned before, our push pin map is in the living/dining area. We don’t entertain as much as we used to, but when we do have company, the push pin map is very visible (5 feet by 2.5 feet)  and has been a conversation starter. Our guests see that we have experience and insight to share about our travels and we love sharing what we know.

Around the push pin map, we placed pictures of trips taken since we have been married.
We really enjoy the map and how it accents our living/dining area. We think it is a perfect gift for the couple that loves to travel. We bought a smaller version of the one we have for as a wedding gift. It was personalized just for them.

Do you know of a couple that is celebrating their 2nd anniversary? How about a push pin map made of canvas. “Cotton” is the gift for a second anniversary.

Canvas is made from "cotton" is the perfect second year anniversary gift!
