Packing Cubes – Simple concept, huge impact

A while ago, my sister in law mentioned to me how she really likes her packing cubes and how it made packing easier for her.  A few months later I went online, read some reviews and found a brand that I wanted to use. She was correct! It changed the way I pack, unpack, and store my clothes when I travel. Packing cubes have been around for a while, from back in the early 2000s, but they recently have surged in popularity as more people are traveling.

Many are made of nylon and mesh with a rectangular or square shape.  They are bags that can are flexible enough to fit many items Think of it as miniature duffel bags. Many packing cubes can be found in stores like Target or Walmart or you can order from Amazon. They costs in the range of $9-$185+.

My favorite has been the Bagail.

The 10 benefits they offer:

  • Many come with 6-8 or even more cubes of varying sizes. Use the smaller cubes for underwear or shoes, while the larger ones can hold bulkier clothing like sweaters and jeans.
  • Packing cubes will keep your clothes neat. If you fold your clothes properly they will stay neat and less wrinkled during your trip. Your clothes will only shift as much as the cube will allow.
The other day, I soon as I finished packing and zipped my suitcase, I realized I forgot to take my socks out. Prior to using packing cubes, I would have to move my clothes around in the luggage, risk wrinkling and having to refold them, just for one item. Honestly I would have gone sock-less to avoid the mess.
  • More room in suitcase. Put the same amount of items in the suitcase without a packing cube as with a packing cube but with the packing cubes, have more room. For someone like me this may be dangerous. Give me more room and I will pack a lot more than I need or leave room for more souvenirs. 🤣🤣🤣
  • Get a jump start on your vacation. Unpack in less than 3 minutes! Keep your clothes in the cubes and transfer directly from the luggage to the drawers.

Before I got married I would keep all of my clothes in my suitcase and just live out of the suitcase during my trip. My husband likes to unpack the suitcase and put clothes in the drawers. I hate to unpack all of my clothes to put in the drawers (sometimes having to refold 👿). Thank goodness for packing cubes. A solution that works for both my husband and I.

We stayed in one hotel recently where we did not enough drawer space so the cubes were very handy as we placed them on top of a shelf and we were still able to keep the clothes neatly folded.

  • Keep dirty clothes separate from clean ones. If you have not used all of the packing cubes for your trip, take an extra one to keep store your dirty clothes in.
  • The cubes are washable. When you return from your trip, throw the cubes in the washer with your dirty clothes to remove and dirt and/or odors.
  • Keep one as your “emergency bag”. An emergency bag is the bag to carry on the plane with a set of clothes, underwear, swim suit and other items that needed in case your luggage is delayed or lost.
  • Your clothes can be organized. Remember when I said I had to find that one pair of socks. Well that was in the cube with my undergarments. If I needed a different shirt, that would be in the cube with the shirts. Everything can be compartmentalized for easy access.
  • Each family member can have their own cubes. Because these cubes are inexpensive, each family member can have their own color coded cubes. This will make it easy for identifying where each person’s clothes are even when they are all in one suitcase.
  • Start packing before retrieving your luggage. Everything is already packed and just needs to be placed into the suitcase. No more stepping over the suitcase for days before you leave because you want to get a jump start on your packing, or having clothes piled up in the spare bedroom until you are ready to put them in the suitcase.

Once you get them you will never pack a without them again. Packing will no longer be dreadful! You will be able to fit more in your luggage and you will feel more organized
